At Cremona Musica 2026 they presented a device that starts from paper rolls and, with the help of AI, lets us hear piano sonatas by Mahler and Debussy again. I recognised my own line of work in it: keeping a trace alive without pretending it's the person. And I found myself wondering where restoration ends and invention begins.
